1983-05-08 - D+27

Following weeks of intense combat in Germany, the front has largely stabilised, with neither side able to bring enough material to the region to force a major breakthrough. The region of Rosche has not been spared from the fighting, with US forces in the area taking significant casualties. For the last 3 days, East German forces have successfully suppressed enemy logistics in the area, preventing US forces from resupplying or replenishing losses in sufficient quantity. This has given the Soviet forces in the area a rare chance to gain some ground without meaningful resistance.

Briefing

The NATO defence in this area seems to revolve around 3 major defensive lines

1. Riestedt-Stocken-Suttorf forward line. Mostly made up of 2nd rate troops, these troops largely function as early warning.
2. Pieperhofen-Jarlitz main line. This seems to be where the bulk of the defenses are active - with a large number of ATGM's and infantry to suppress both armoured and infantry advances
3. Route 493. Functioning mainly as a reserve line from where reinforcements can be dispatched, this seems to be where the majority of the US armour is located.

If we can break these 3 lines, and hold the break open, we should be able to wreak havoc in the American Rear, potentially forcing the NATO forces to our east to retreat or risk destruction. Behind enemy lines there are a number of Supports that we should aim to destroy. These largely support the frontline, however they cannot be allowed to retreat as they are far more difficult to replace for NATO than the other units in the area

There is also an enemy HQ in the region. We have been able to identify its rough location as the town of Rassau. This should be captured before the Commander can flee to the south.

Objectives

1. Break the 3 defensive lines.
2. Destroy the support elements in the region.
3. Destroy the command section in Rassau.
