BRIEFING

Background

NVA Forces have accomplished a major offensive, capturing up to the coastal region of Sihanoukville, giving the NVA access to the southern coastline, threatening shipping. The 79th ARVN Infantry Division, having recently been provided with significant US material support, have been gearing up to recapture the region.

SITREP

1965-07-26 On the 24th we were able to capture San Bay Ban airstrip and the surrounding area, securing us an easy route to airlift cargo onto the island. As a result, platoon logistics has been issued a second Huey for aerial resupply for your request. We have also secured a shipment of PRC-343 Short Range Radios. The manufacturer notes that their penetration through the thick brush of the jungles may be unreliable however.

Briefing

Today we've been tasked with cutting off the island of Lumphat. There is a single bridge connecting the island to the mainland, and we plan on cutting off the path to this bridge. To do this you will be capturing the town of Attapeu. This is likely heavily defended by both infantry and possibly some heavy armour. To the south of Attapeu there are are some fortified PAVN villages, a RADAR station and a major AA emplacement. While these objectives are not as mission critical, failure to complete these before Attapeu means we will have no route over land to reach you for resupply nor reinforcements, and risks you being fully cut off.
